A cross-border film cooperative inspired by the jaguar, an animal sacred to Native Americans for its strength and its role in protecting the territory, which, in its wanderings, devours overproduced species; in this case, commercial cinema.
Oeil de jaguar drew inspiration for its logo from the Jaguar Tunjo, a gold artwork from the Muisca culture, a civilisation of the Cundinamarca and Boyacá region in Colombia, which flourished between 1000 and 1600 AD, with its Tunjos dating from the 10th to the 16th centuries. We have particularly retained the close-up of the jaguar’s tail, which swings like a pendulum and stirs the imagination.
In the same way, the cooperative aims to bring together local groups, such as the French collective ‘Cinéastes Non Alignées’ and the Colombian organisation ‘El Espejo’, to distribute films from the Global South (regions committed to the struggle for the right to local epistemologies, aesthetics and forms of expression that uphold human dignity), with the aim of strengthening local economies and building an audience for diverse cultural events.
